Curriculum Strength and Advanced Testing: Do They Matter?

I happened to be talking with a mom of the prospective pupil recently. She mentioned concerns regarding our evaluation of rigor and AP/IB/SAT topic tests. These concerns have recently show up more frequently in a blog so I thought it would be fitting to address it. Possibly it is because AP tests are coming quickly and pupils are beginning to question in case it is worth every penny to simply take the tests.
First, let’s address rigor. The general inquiry appears to essentially boil down to the:
Are admission counselors in a position to objectively and fairly evaluate the curriculum strength of each student?
In an expressed term, YES. At USC, we have one of the greatest, if not the largest admission staff of any private university in the united states. Each member is assigned up to a domestic or region that is international or both. We take pride in looking after our regions. Relationships are forged and maintained with high school counselors, parents and prospective students. The target is to have a comprehensive and understanding that is detailed of territory. We have become alert to what an application that is competitive like within its proper context. Fundamentally, you are able to give consideration to us as context specialists. Context is especially crucial in our process. We realize that rigor appears vastly unique and different for every school. Access to academic and extracurricular tasks in each high college, town, and area will vary.
It is got by me…rigor and context are important. Is sensible. Therefore now that I’ve taken all these advanced level courses, is it actually worth every penny to take the tests?
In another word, well the word that is same YES. You have invest so much work learning the higher level product all year. You will want to just take the test?! There are more benefits that are potential the apparent financial savings you could have if you’re to pass through these tests. In essence, you could wind up freeing some devices to just just take on another minor or even a dual major. Trust me, if you place in the ongoing work now, the benefits will outweigh the expenses much more.
Generally speaking, if you get at least a 4 on any AP exam, or at the least a 5 on any high level IB Exam; then you’ll be able to move some credits into USC. To find out more, please go directly to the USC Articulation Website.
Finally, SAT Subject Tests, just what about those? Well, simply speaking, they have been not required to make an application for just about any program that is undergraduate USC. But, in the event that you occur to be using them for the next school and also you get a great score, then get ahead and submit those scores to us. We will positively give them a look.
All the best on every person using the AP and IB exams coming up. I hope this gives a few of you a small bit more inspiration!
Mission Accomplished!
Moments ago, we bid adieu to a vehicle full of admission choices. they truly are officially mailed today! So exciting! To keep with your USC Admission Blog tradition, Dean of Admission Tim Brunold had been kind enough to publish a visitor web log once again in 2010. Read more as he reflects over the file review season and provides some data about our recently admitted class that is first-year.
Not merely did we get record numbers—more than 51,700 applicants for the freshman class—but our admission committee enjoyed getting to know the finest, most interesting number of pupils it has ever had the privilege of reading.
Thanks for staying with us over this year that is past. We now have needed and used every minute that is single our deadlines passed to choose this course. In reality, we finalized the last of our decisions more or less eight hours ago.
Selecting students is parts that are equal and science. While we have always been confident that the group only at USC has made the greatest choices possible, we have always been sure not everybody else will agree with our judgment. We are also dismayed that so many incredible students were turned away; there just wasn’t enough room although we are thrilled to have identified the most impressive admitted class in USC’s 134-year history. None of us takes joy or pride in this element of our work. We have been, however, significantly consoled by the proven fact that our applicants have actually myriad options for degree. Past experience shows us that everyone will see spot that’s right for them.
